Everyone wants to have a home that makes a statement. Each home visually reflects who we are, what we like and what we value. From the light fixtures that we choose to the ceramic tile for bathrooms, we choose each item with care and contemplation. For some, it may be the ornate wall tile ceramic that is in the kitchen. For others, it may be the furniture that we choose. To find the right type of inspiration, we can look in a number of places.
We’ve seen people add style, color, and texture in many different areas but one of our favorites that seem to be trending has been tiled staircases! By picking out the right tiles, you can create a lovely focal point in your own home. While the task of integrating a tiled floor into your home may seem daunting, the process is much more simple than you may think.
- INSPECTION: The first step is to inspect your current staircase for any wear and damage. If there is a good deal of damage, portions of your staircase may need to be covered with bakerboard. This gives your staircase consistent thickness, which is what you will need when you begin setting your tile.
- MORTAR: A thin set of mortar in placed on the back of each piece of tile. You will want to spread your mortar from left to right on the tile.
- TILE PLACEMENT: Beginning at the top of your staircase, place the tiles in their optimal places and tap them with a rubber mallet to secure them in place.
- TILE SPACERS: These can be placed to the right or to the left of each individual tile. Repeat these steps as you move down your staircase.
Before you know it, you will have a fabulous tiled staircase with minimal investment. A great tip is to find ceramic tile on sale. You can choose whichever type of tile you would like and be as artistic as you want. When you are finished, you will have a stunning and unique focal point for your entire home. Your staircase will truly be your pride and joy. Don’t be surprised if guests compliment your staircase and ask you how you accomplished creating one. They will be pleasantly surprised when they discover how easy this process can be.
